David Roberts (Scottish 1789-1854)

Roberts was a Scottish artist living in London having a desire to portray the monuments and views of The Holy Land and Ancient Egypt.  In 1837 he traveled to The Holy Land and proceeded to record the ancient monuments where the peoples of the Bible had lived thousands of years earlier.

Over a period of more than a year he drew and painted sketches of these ancient sites.  Upon returning to England he worked up full size watercolours of these sketches and exhibited them around England and Scotland in order to procure commitments to purchase a set of Duo-Tone Lithographs numbering 250 in two separate publications: The Holy Land and Views of Egypt and Nubia.

The two publications are considered to be the greatest lithographic effort of the 19th century and today are eagerly sought out by collectors around the world.  Most of these individual images now sell for thousands of dollars each.

We offer here full size Giclees of these rare images.  We only print on the finest archival paper and use archival inks in their printing.
Each image is offered at $150.  Only a few of the total are shown here but we do have access to the full set to print from.
