John Gould Humming Birds

The Monograph of the Trochilidae or Family of Humming birds is one of John Goulds most famous works.  Consisting of 418 images, it was originally published in London from 1849-61.  Each of the lithographs was expertly hand colored and many finished with gold leaf and gum arabic.

This edition was published by Hill House in Melbourne and London in 1993.  The original images came from the libraries of the British Museum of Natural History in London.  As in the original publication this edition is finished in gum arabic and gold leaf highlighting.
